“If the fans are not tired of celebrating, I will not be tired of scoring” – vows Papis Nyassi
Former Bombada Football Club goal poacher, Papis Nyassi pledged that he will continue to bang in goals so long as fans are not tired of cheering him.
Brikama United striker, Papis leads the scoring chart in the first round of the Gambia Football Federation Division One League.
"If the fans are not tired of celebrating, I will not be tired of scoring." Papis Nyassi pledges.
Papis Nyassi fondly called by his moniker name, 'Vet’, has scored 9 goals in 11 matches. Vet has started only 7 times in those 11 matches due to injuries and poor match fitness issues.
Papis Nyassi scored a brace to help his team to a 2-0 win over Marimoo FC to revive their hopes of competing for the top end of the league.
Vet is on top of the Gambia Football Federation Division 1 goal scoring chart with 9 goals and just a goal ahead of Saikouba Ceesay, who scored 8 goals.
Papis Nyassi is enjoying the best season of his life since making his debut for Brikama United in 2017.
With just 6 goals shy of the record goals scored in the Gambian topflight, set by Modou Njie Sarr and Mustapha Drammeh, Papis is optimistic that he will break the duo's record.
" For me, 15 goals is already sealed and packed. I am looking to set a strong record that will be standing for years" Papis told Gambia Sports.
Papis’ best-ever goal return was 8 goals when he had a breakthrough season with Bombada Football Club in the second tier of Gambian football.
