However, Ceesay's early opener from the penalty spot did not stop his relegation threatened side from a humbling 4 -2 defeat to the Die Roten (The reds) despite leading twice.

The Gambia striker put his side ahead from the penalty spot 6 minute into the game at the Stadion an der Bremer Brücke following a foul on 22-year-old German forward Etiene Amenyido by his compatriot Domink Kaiser. Torres, as Ceesay is fondly referred to by Gambians, stepped foward and fired the resulting spot kick into the bottom left corner of Ron-Robert Zielers goal, although the goalkeeper was a bit slow to react, came close to saving the shot.

Hanover got back on level pecking five minutes later through an own goal from Osnabrück's Dutch defender Jon Van Aken in the 11th minute.

Amenyido then fired in a brilliant shot from the edge of the Reds penalty to put the Whites ahead for the second time in the 47th minute, unfortunately his side crumbled later on. Two quick fire goals from Marvin Ducksch in the 75th and 80th minute put Hanover on course for a comfortable victory before Japanese midfielder Genki Haraguchi completed the scoreline in the 85th minute to finish 4-2.

Ceesay, who moved to the German Bundesliga 2 side back in January this year on loan from Swiss side FC Zurich, did not have the best of starts in Germany, where he started only three of the six games, he was involved in. He was suspended for three games following his straight red card against Karlshurer SC before the Coronavirus lockdown, for a dangerous foul on Dirk Carlson, which resulted in the US full back been carried off with a head injury and the former Gamtel striker been suspended for three subsequent games.

Saturday was his third start and this first goal will hopefully usher him some much-needed confidence for the remainder of season. Osnabrück are currently 2 points away from the drop in 13th place.
