Steve Trawally completes European move
Scorpions forward Bubacarr ‘Steve’ Trawally has finally secured his dream of signing for a European club as he joins Swedish Cup holders Hammarby IF.
The Gambia international leaves UAE side Ajman Club to join Allsvenskan club Hammarby until December 2023.
The 27-year-old was the last piece of the puzzle for Hammarby who were delighted to complete Steve’s signature before the transfer window shut in Sweden.
“We finished with Bubacarr some time back and the plan was for him to join us in the summer, but we wanted him over already now, so since then we have been working to get him here for the start of our season. It has been a couple of intense weeks and even if he misses the opening match, we are very happy to have him with us already and to get a player of his class in, feels fantastic,” Jesper Jansson, Hammarby’s sports director said.
He added: “Steve is an offensive player who can play in all three positions at the front. He is all-round, fast, good with the ball and can finish in several different ways, and we are convinced that he will contribute a lot to our offense. He is a quality player who is a national team player and even though he played in leagues that are unfamiliar to most people here, they maintain a good level. European clubs have been looking for him before, but it is only now that he feels he wants to step here and measure himself in European football.”
For his part, Steve said he was delighted to sign for a European club and is looking forward to playing for the Stockholm-based club.
“It feels fantastic to come to Hammarby and I really look forward to meeting the club’s supporters. It’s been a dream to sign for a European team, there have been several offers before but unfortunately, it didn’t happen but I’m glad it has happened now, and I look forward to using Hammarby as a step.”
The former Real de Banjul, Hangzhou Greentown, Yanbian Changbaishan, Guizhou Hengfeng and Al Shabab FC forward will link up with the Stockholm-based club next week to commence his career in Sweden.
Hammarby IF is a Swedish football club from Stockholm founded in 1915. The club is based at Tele2 Arena in Johanneshov but founded in the neighbouring Södermalm district of Stockholm City Centre, an area the club considers its heartland.
Hammarby are placed eleventh in the all-time Allsvenskan table and have won the league once, in 2001. The club has competed in the Svenska Cupen final four times, winning their first title in 2021.
